Many EPA cleanup programs have developed specific revitalization-related initiatives to supplement core program activities. These initiatives have been developed to address specific revitalization challenges, such as common sector-based problems, regulatory barriers to reuse, and sustainable redevelopment. The list below provides links to a number of activities and initiatives sponsored by EPA programs.
- Brownfield Initiatives – This link leads to the Brownfields Program’s descriptions of Sector-Based Initiatives, Related Environmental Pilot Programs and Initiatives, and Community Initiatives.
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Initiatives – The Brownfields Prevention Initiative has undertaken several activities related to ecological and recreational reuse of RCRA sites. EPA also engages in Targeted Site Efforts (TSEs) at RCRA Brownfields. The second round of TSEs will support specific site work and/or provide assistance in fleshing out approaches and options for cleanup and reuse at RCRA facilities.
- Superfund Initiatives – Superfund Redevelopment helps communities return some of the nation's worst hazardous waste sites to safe and productive uses.
- Underground Storage Tanks Reuse Initiatives – Information about one of the Office of Underground Storage Tanks' (OUST) reuse and revitalization priorities – Cleaning Up and Reusing Abandoned Gas Station Sites (RAGS). The page serves as a gateway to a variety of methods that may assist communities in their revitalization efforts.
