Region 8 External Awards Program
EPA Region 8 is calling for nominations for our annual EPA Regional External Awards Program. This program gives us the opportunity to recognize individuals and groups who have made exceptional contributions to improving the environment. This request is being sent to all Region 8 state and tribal environmental programs. To broaden distribution, we encourage you to share this request for nominations with your associates, colleagues and other groups and individuals who may wish to participate.We invite you to submit a nomination for an individual or group who has championed environmental protection efforts. Group nominations will be limited to a maximum of 12 nominees who meet the criteria in the enclosed awards document. We would like to challenge each of you to reflect upon this past year and join us in recognizing that special individual or group for their cumulative efforts to promote and protect our beautiful six-state region.
Please note that EPA's External Award is only given to those individuals and groups that submit nominations for work that is carried out under the following federal environmental statutes: Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Pollution Prevention Act (PPA). Any other work done must also reference one of these four statutes.
Work done solely within the following statutes is not eligible for recognition by the Agency: Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rondenticide Act (FIFRA), Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and Superfund/CERCLA.

Once nominations have been received, they will be evaluated by a Regional External Award Review Panel. Recommendations from this panel will then be submitted to Region 8 senior managers for final approval.Award criteria and eligibility (PDF, 15 kB)
All nominations must be received in our office by close of business January 22, 2008. Nominations received after this date will not be considered. Please e-mail your nominations to Tim Davis at davis.tim@epa.gov . You may use this online nomination form if you'd like, but it may be easier send an e-mail to Tim Davis with an attached Word document containing your nomination.
It would be helpful for us if you use the following format, in this order, for your nomination:
- Your name, position/title, organization, address, e-mail and phone number
- Award category (Environmental Achievement, Friend of EPA, A Wade Vitalis or Frank DeCouteau)
- Statutory Authority (CWA, CAA, RCRA, P2 or any combination of these four statutes)
- Nomination write-up
- Brief proposed citation for award
