The ENERGY STAR® is the national symbol for energy efficiency in America. When a big commercial building saves more energy by using less energy, they could get their very own ENERGY STAR.
Most houses and schools use a lot of electricity and energy every year. This means high utility bills and wasted energy. The EPA Region 8 headquarters will be receiving the ENERGY STAR, for a building designed especially for saving energy.
- A "Double Letter L" shaped building to maximize the sunlight shining in
- Light sensors, which change based on the weather. If it's cloudy, the lights go up. If it's sunny, the lights go down
- Light-bulbs that use far less energy than others
- Computer settings which automatically put computers into a "sleep" mode when users are not around
- Multi-function machines, which can fax, email, copy, scan and print, use 80% less energy than using five different machines
- Cleaning staff who work during daylight hours to save electricity
