In Fiscal Year 2009, EPA's Brownfields Program will distribute approximately $74 million in grants to assist communities across the country cleanup and revitalize brownfields. This on-line workshop is designed to help applicants tap into these resources by writing effective proposals and understanding the guideline changes for EPA's Assessment, Cleanup and Revolving Loan Fund grants. EPA has modified its Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund and Cleanup (ARC) Grant Proposal Guidelines. Montana secures $400,000 in grant funds to advance efforts to cleanup and
revitalize contaminated properties.

The supplemental EPA Brownfields grant will capitalize the City's Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund, a resource that provides low-interest loans and subgrants for environmental cleanup activities and encourages public and private redevelopment projects. - Registration now open for the Strategies

This workshop is open to anyone who is interested in starting a job training program in their community. The workshop will be held on August 5-6, 2008 in Betterndorf, Iowa at the Isle of Capri Hotel and Conference Center. - Phoenix
Awards Now Taking Applications

The Phoenix Award Executive Committee is seeking revitalization projects to recognize for excellence in brownfield redevelopment. One winner will be selected from each of EPA's ten regions. The awards are open to any individual, group, company, organization, government body or agency. Criteria for The Phoenix Awards focus on the magnitude of the project, innovative techniques, solutions to regulatory issues and impact upon the community. This introductory session is intended to provide a general overview of EPA Brownfields opportunities to local governments and nonprofit organizations in Utah, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. Previous successes will be highlighted, as will grant funding opportunities. This session is designed to allow for maximum participant interaction so please come prepared with questions. - December 20, 2007 - Registration is now open for the Northeast Brownfields
Development Forum, to be held at the Philadelphia Marriott, Philadelphia,
PA, on February 12, 2008. If you've got a contaminated property available,
here's a great opportunity to get it seen by developers. Come join major retailers,
developers, local,state and federal officials in this one day educational
forum and deal making event.
- August 28,2007 - The Proposal Guidlines for the Technical Assistance
to Brownfields Communities grants has been posted to www.epa.gov/swerrims/grants-funding.htm#EPA-OSWER-OBCR-07-08.
These grants provide funding to eligible entities to provide technical assistance
to communities facing brownfield cleanup and redevelopment challenges. The
proposal deadline is October 2, 2007.
- August 14, 2007 - The Proposal Guidlines for EPA's FY08 Brownfields
Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund and Cleanup Grants has been posted to www.epa.gov/swerrims/grants-funding.htm#EPA-OSWER-OBCR-07-09.
These grants provide funding to eligible entities to identify, assess and
clean up Brownfields properties. The proposal deadline is October 12, 2007.
- August 6, 2007 EPA Region 8 On-Line Workshop - "Understanding the
EPA Brownfields Proposal Guidelines" on August 29, 2007 from 10am-noon (MDT).
The workshop is designed to assist local governments, tribes and nonprofit
organizations to better understand the proposal criteria and selection process
for EPA's Brownfields Assessment, Cleanup and revolving Loan Fund grants.

- January 31, 2007 - Brownfields Tax Incentive Extended and Expanded
On December 20, 2006, the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006 that included an extension and expansion of the Brownfields Tax Incentive was signed into law. The incentive was renewed, effective after December 31, 2005, and extended until December 31, 2007. The Brownfields Tax Incentive allows environmental cleanup costs to be deducted in the year incurred, rather than capitalized over time.EPA is updating its guidelines and other Brownfields Tax Incentive information resources to reflect the extension. - November 6, 2006 - The Mine-Scarred
Lands Initiative (MSL) Tool Kit is available online. This resource shares
lessons learned by the Brownfields Federal Partnership Mine-Scarred Lands
(MSL) Initiative through six demonstration projects conducted across the country
on both hard rock and coal sites. It features the experiences of the six projects
and links to other mine cleanup and reuse resources.
- October 16, 2006 - The FY07
Proposal Guidelines for EPA Brownfields Assessment, Cleanup and Revolving
Loan Fund (RLF) grants are now available online. The deadline for submitting
a proposal is December 8, 2006.
- August 28, 2006 - Are you interested in learning more about Brownfields
Job Training? The next Strategies for Job Development and Training in Brownfields
Communities workshop will be held October 16-17, 2006 in Nashville, TN. This
workshop is open to anyone who is interested in starting a job training program
in their community.
- July 17, 2006 - EPA has just announced the availability of funds
and solicits proposals from eligible entities to provide environmental job
training projects that will facilitate assessment, remediation, or preparation
of Brownfields sites. Eligible entities must propose to serve a community
that currently receives, or has received, financial assistance from EPA for
Brownfields assessment, revolving loan fund or cleanup competitive grants.
States and certain eligible Indian Tribes currently receiving CERCLA Section
128 funding may propose to serve any community within their jurisdiction where
the State or Indian Tribe is conducting site-specific Brownfields work (e.g.,
assessment or clean up activities) with State, Indian Tribal or Federal CERCLA
Section 128 funds. For details see EPA's Office

The closing date is September 8.
- June 14, 2006 - The National Association of Local Government Environmental
Professionals (NALGEP) will be hosting its annual Brownfields Summit the 24th
and 25th of July in Washington, DC. See the 2006

- March 30, 2006 - The 2006 Brownfields National Conference will be
held November 13-15 in Boston, MA. For information on registration, travel

place June 5-7 in Tucson, AZ.

- March 23, 2006 - The Phoenix Award™ Executive Committee is seeking
redevelopment projects to recognize for excellence in brownfields redevelopment.
The project participants will be honored at an awards ceremony during Brownfields
2006 in Boston, Massachusetts, November 13-15, 2006. The deadline for
applications is Friday, June 30, 2006.
