Pesticide Residue Check Sample Pilot

The pesticide residue check sample program is a proficiency testing program for states and tribes to help support the credibility of their Pesticide Program's enforcement cases. Additionally, the pilot program will identify operational areas in need of improvement as well as support their Quality Management Plan (QMP).

The program is designed to assist laboratories identify operational areas in need of improvement. The program is being administered by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Laboratory Services.

The program includes the analysis of pesticide samples representative of field samples obtained during mis-use investigations. Two sample sets of five samples will be sent to participating labs each year. The first set was issued in January 2008, and was composed of five soil samples. The second set will be sent in October 2008.

The activities related to the first set of samples created in January 2008 constitute a pilot program that has financial support from EPA. In order to have a sustainable program that covers costs, an annual subscription fee of $1,100 will be charged to participants.

To date, 34 of 47 state laboratories are participating in the program.
