Clean, Green and Healthy Tribal Schools

NEW: June 11th workshop in Denver
EPA Region 8 will host a Clean, Green and Healthy Tribal Schools Workshop on June 11, 2012 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver in conjunction with the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) Summer Institute. The workshop is designed for BIE Line Officers, tribal school administrators, facility managers, educators, health and safety coordinators, school health professionals, tribal environmental protection personnel, parents of school children, communities and EPA personnel. The goal of the workshop is to provide information and tools for tribal school personnel to ensure that tribal schools are clean, green and healthy for themselves, school children and their community. The workshop is open to the public and there is no cost to attend.  Click here to register for the workshop .

Livestreaming the June 11th workshop:

For those who cannot attend the workshop in person, livestreaming will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 11, 2012. Simply go to this link on June 11 and you will be connected; to access livestreaming for the workshop, pre-registration is not necessary. If you cannot dedicate an entire day to view the livestream, you can view specific topics of your choosing. There is no limit to the number of times you can reconnect.

System Requirements:

  • An internet connection with a minimum speed of 1.5 megabytes per second
  • Windows Media Player or QuickTime
  • PC-based attendees: Windows® 7, Vista, XP or 2003 Server
  • Macintosh®-based attendees: Mac OS® X 10.5 or newer


Tribal Schools Webinar Series in 2012
EPA Region 8 hosted a Clean, Green and Healthy Tribal Schools webinar series for six weeks starting in January 2012. The goal of the webinar series was to provide information and tools for tribal school administrators, risk managers, educators, health and safety coordinators, school health professionals, building managers, tribal environmental protection personnel, parents of school children, and communities, to ensure that tribal schools are clean, green and healthy for themselves, school children and their community. Topics included:

  • Asbestos
  • Lead Repair Renovation and Painting Rule
  • Integrated Pesticide Management
  • Green Cleaning

EPA Region 8 has developed a Clean, Green and Healthy Schools Initiative to assist administrators and staff in protecting human health and the environmental in and around schools. The Peaks to Prairies Pollution Prevention Center and EPA Region 8 hosted three Healthy and Safe Schools Webinar series in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
