EPA Region 8 NPS Program | CO NPS Program | MT NPS Program ND NPS Program | SD NPS Program | UT NPS Program | WY NPS ProgramThe Region 8 NPS program (Wyoming, Utah, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado, and five approved Tribes) places an emphasis on implementation of on-the-ground activities with the 319 funding that is passed through to the states. Since the inception of the program, the region has received approximately $108 million dollars for approximately 870 nonpoint source pollution control, prevention, and abatement projects region-wide. In addition, a total of $19,781.1 million has been allocated to the Region for 2002. GRAND TOTAL FOR REGION THROUGH 2002.
Over the past several years, the focus of the program has evolved to emphasize prioritization, targeting and TMDLs, as well as the need to address water quality concerns associated with animal feeding operations. The region is pleased to see the increased emphasis from Headquarters on demonstrating water quality improvements as well as program successes in NPS. Region 8 has also initiated increased Endangered Species Act (ESA) compliance based on vulnerability demonstrated by the ESA TMDL lawsuit in Montana.
