Region 8 General Permits for
Wastewater Lagoon Systems on Indian Reservations
On July 16, 2004, EPA Region 8 issued National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) general permits for wastewater lagoon systems treating primarily domestic wastewater, located on Indian Reservations in the States of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.
EPA Region 8 has grouped Indian country together geographically by State for administrative ease. General permits will not be issued at this time for Indian country in Colorado (the Southern Ute Indian Reservation located in Colorado and the Ute Mountain Indian Reservation located in Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah) due to water quality concerns in the San Juan River Basin portion of the Colorado River Basin. The permit number is in the format of SSG589###, where "SS" is for the state abbreviation, "G" indicates general permit, "58" indicates municipal sewerage system, and the 9### will be a number assigned to a specific facility covered under the permit.
