Hawaii Regional Haze – Final Federal Implementation Plan
On September 14, 2012, EPA finalized action on a Regional Haze Federal Implementation Plan (FIP) for Hawaii. The plan is designed to reduce human-caused visibility impairment at the Haleakala National Park and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Final Action to Partially approve/Partially Disapprove and Promulgate the Hawaii Infrastructure State Implementation Plan (SIP) submittal for the 1997 8-hour ozone, 1997 fine particulate (PM2.5) and 2006 PM2.5 National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) as meeting the requirements under Clean Air Act (CAA) section 110(a)(2)
On July 26, 2012, EPA took final action to partially approve and partially disapprove the Hawaii Infrastructure SIP submittal for the 1997 8-hour ozone, 1997 PM2.5 and 2006 PM2.5 NAAQS as meeting the requirements under CAA section 110(a)(2). Elements that are not approvable are enacted through two current federal implementation plans (FIPs) addressing Hawaii's Prevention of Significant Deterioration program and Hawaii's Reasonably Attributable Visibility Impairment requirement, as well as a new FIP to address Hawaii's Regional Haze requirement. The Hawaii Regional Haze FIP is being addressed in a separate action with a consent decree deadline for final action by September 15, 2012. The partial disapproval will not require any new FIPs. We are under a settlement agreement deadline to take final action on the Hawaii 1997 8-hour ozone infrastructure SIP by July 31, 2012.
Hawaii Regional Haze – Proposed Federal Implementation Plan
On May 14, 2012, EPA proposed a Federal Implementation Plan (FIP) to address the requirements for reducing regional haze and improving visibility at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island, and Haleakala National Park on Maui.
