Airport Lead Monitoring in the Pacific Southwest

National Resources

To learn more about air pollutant emissions from aviation, including lead emissions from piston-engine aircraft, visit EPA’s page on emissions from aircraft.

EPA’s National Airport Lead Monitoring Program update (PDF) provides a summary of data currently available on concentrations of lead measured at 17 airport facilities in the U.S.  Of these, two airports in California - San Carlos Airport and McClellan-Palomar Airport - have monitored lead concentrations that exceed the lead National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS). Supplemental sampling is being conducted to evaluate lead concentrations at additional locations at and near these airports.
