Climate Change in the Pacific Southwest

At the US EPA, we approach the challenge of climate change through both mitigation and adaptation

Climate Change mitigation is about reducing the human impact on the climate system.  Mitigation includes strategies to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere, and increase the amount of greenhouse gases removed from the atmosphere. Clean Energy is a focus of much of EPA’s work on Climate Change Mitigation.  To see what EPA Region 9 is doing for Climate Change Mitigation, see our Pacific Southwest Energy Efficiency page.

Climate Change adaptation is about understanding how we are vulnerable to the changing climate and preparing our natural and human systems to be resilient in the face of change. To see how EPA is preparing its own programs for climate change, and helping its partners do the same, see our Pacific Southwest Adaptation page.
