Preventing Oil Spills
To contact a Region 9 Duty Officer for oil or chemical spills in Arizona, California, Nevada, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands please call (800) 300-2193. This number is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Oil spills present a significant threat to the environment. To minimize the number, size, and impact of spills degrading the environment, EPA’s Pacific Southwest Region conducts inspections, trainings, on site spill response exercises, and enforcement. The Region also provides emergency response personnel in the event of a major spill.
To learn more about the regulatory requirements concerning oil spill prevention (i.e. Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plans) and response (i.e. Facility Response Plans), please go to EPA's Oil Spills website.
