Health and Climate Change

Research is underway to assess the risks for the most susceptible individuals and the most suceptible communities to climate change.

Climate change is having direct and indirect impacts on the health of people. More extreme weather events, heat waves, spread of infective parasites and detrimental impacts on air and water quality are all have impacts on our health.

Researchers are working to:

  • Identify and characterize communities and people at greatest risk to climate change and air pollution, including potential societal and behavioral responses.
  • Assess the individual and synergistic impacts of air quality and climate change on human health of sensitive subpopulations and communities.
  • Develop approaches to assess the likelihood and effects of extreme events on human health.
