Above Ground Storage Tanks
- Above Ground Storage Tanks: Above ground storage tanks (ASTs) generally need to meet U.S. EPA's Spill, Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) requirements (40 CFR, Part 112). SPCC applies to facilities with a single AST with a storage capacity greater than 660 gallons, or multiple tanks with a combined capacity greater than 1,320 gallons.
Containers of Refrigerants
- Containers of Refrigerants: Containers holding ozone depleting substances such as CFCs and HCFCs must be labeled. The Department of Transport also requires that containers be labeled.
Hazardous Waste Container
- Hazardous Waste Containers (PDF): A hazardous waste container is any portable device in which a hazardous waste is stored, transported, treated, disposed, or otherwise handled. A container may be a 55-gallon drum made from steel or plastic, a large tanker truck, a railroad car, a small bucket, or a test tube.
Hazardous Waste Storage Tanks
- Hazardous Waste Storage Tanks (PDF) : Tanks are simply receptacles for holding hazardous waste. Generators using tanks as primary management units for accumulating hazardous wastes also must follow the interim status tank regulations in 40 CFR Part 265.
Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeaure
- Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeaure (SPCC): The Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) rule includes requirements for oil spill prevention, preparedness, and response to prevent oil discharges to navigable waters and adjoining shorelines. The rule requires specific facilities to prepare, amend, and implement SPCC Plans.
Underground Storage Tanks
- Underground Storage Tanks: An UST is an underground storage tank and underground piping connected to the tank that has at least 10 percent of its combined volume underground. The federal regulations apply only to USTs storing petroleum or certain hazardous substances. The UST program is primarily implemented by the states and territories.
- Reporting: Any owner who brings an underground storage tank system into use after May 8, 1986, must submit a notification form (EPA Form 7530-1 (PDF)) to the state or local agency or department designated to receive such notice.
