Program Successes
- Reduced Energy consumption among all of the RTP facilities by 6.7% in FY07:
- More than double the 3% annual energy reduction goal under EO13423
- The annual energy use of 454 average NC homes
- The annual equivalent of 6.8 million fast food meals
- Reduced Water consumption in the Main Building by over 2.5 million gallons during the first half of FY08:
- Used lake water to irrigate gardens and plantings
- Recycled more than 138 tons of office wastes in FY07:
- 4 tons mixed Glass
- 1 ton plastics
- 2 tons aluminum/steel
- 23 tons newspaper
- 61 tons office paper
- 47 tons cardboard
- Composted almost 35 tons of food wastes from the RTP Campus Café in FY07:
- Meanwhile, 90 tons of finished compost were incorporated into the campus landscape beds - 2.5 times more than we produced as waste
Donated over $1.5 million in surplus property to other public agencies
- Alternative Commuting Participation Increased Dramatically:
- TT Bus riders increased by 27%
- Vanpoolers increased by 28%
- Carpooling increased by 13%
- 29% of the employees use Alternative Commuting
- Installed a FREE solar-powered air station on the RTP Campus:
- Employees can keep their tires properly inflated and improve gas mileage by 3%
