Central Utility Plant
The campus Central Utility Plant (CUP) is operated by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and also serves EPA. When the original NIEHS plant was expanded to support EPA's facilities, exterior precast panels were removed and reused on the new portion. Pipes from the boiler and chiller plants run underground between NIEHS and EPA campuses. The plant's boilers, chillers and pumps are high efficiency systems. The chiller plant uses no CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons). |
