San Francisco Bay Delta Watershed

Bay Area Water Projects

San Francisco Bay Area Water Quality Improvement Fund

During the last three decades, there have been notable successes in protecting the environmental health of San Francisco Bay. However, substantial environmental challenges remain. To help, Congress has appropriated over $20 million in funding since 2008 to EPA for a competitive grant program to protect and restore San Francisco Bay and its watersheds. EPA now supports 38 on-the-ground projects, working with 53 partners who have contributed $11.6 million in matching funds, and an additional $32 million in leveraged funds to achieve significant environmental results related to wetlands, water quality and green development.

Solicitations (Closed)

EPA recently solicited proposals under two Requests for Initial Proposals (RFIPs) for projects that protect and restore the water quality of the San Francisco Bay and its watersheds.

The following table briefly describes the key distinctions between the two RFIPs.

Program Priorities:  EPA will consider a broad range of project types to protect and restore the water quality of the San Francisco Bay and its watersheds.  EPA is very interested in technically sound proposals to reduce polluted run-off, restore impaired waters, and enhance aquatic habitat.  In addition, we are seeking innovative, cost-effective proposals that include partnerships and foster widespread implementation.

Eligibility:  A broad range of entities within the nine Bay Area counties (Marin, Napa, Sonoma, Solano, Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco) are eligible to apply.
