The Pedestrian
and Bicycle Information Center: Bikeability Checklist
Bicycling provides an alternative to automobile transportation. This checklist allows community members to rate the safety and efficiency of using a bicycle to get around. The authors of this checklist suggest that a user review the questions asked then take a ride in the community - to shops, work, or to a friend's house. Upon returning from the ride, the use should answer the questions listed in the checklist. The checklist documents also includes suggestions for improving the bikability of a community. These suggestions are organized to reflect the categories covered in the checklist and divided into two groups - what can be done to improve conditions immediately and over time. There is also an extensive resources section.

Walkability

The Pedestrian
and Bicycle Information Center: Walkability Checklist
The Walkability Checklist is similar to the Bikability Checklist. The authors suggest that community members familiarize themselves with the information in the checklist prior to heading out on a walk in the community. Upon returning, the questions in the checklist should be answered. Scores are compiled for both the range of categories and overall. The checklist contains additional information for making improvements - immediately and into the future - and provides and extensive set of resources for communities interested in finding out more.
