2009 Schools Chemical Cleanout Campaign Recognition Event

On October 22, 2009 EPA recognized eleven Schools Chemical Cleanout Campaign (SC3) volunteers for their outstanding efforts to protect children where they learn. Collectively, these eleven SC3 volunteers removed over 70,000 pounds of outdated, unknown, unneeded, and in some cases, highly hazardous chemicals from approximately 300 K-12 schools across the country. In addition to chemical removal, these volunteers provided other services to schools including:

The event opened with taped remarks from Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, who noted that October is Children’s Health Month and a perfect time to recognize SC3 volunteers for their contribution to creating safer learning environments.
