Poster Contest
2008 National Winner

SunWise teamed up with the SHADE Foundation of America and WeatherBug Schools to put
on the Limit the Sun, Not the Fun 2008 SHADE Poster Contest in all 50 states and territories. Over the six years of the contest's
existence, the total number of students participating has exceeded 60,000.
Posters submitted to the contest are original, creative and suggest ways
to prevent skin cancer and raise sun safety awareness. Examples of prevention
and awareness tips presented on the posters include:
- using sunscreen
- wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
- seeking shade when the sun's UV radiation is most intense between 10
a.m. and 4 p.m.
- covering up with full-length clothing to protect one’s skin
- checking the Ultraviolet (UV) Index
2008 State Prizes*:
- Apple iPod nano for the winning child
- Sun UV Station for the school (value: $99)
- One gallon pump bottle of sunscreen for the school (value: $200)
- A box of 3,000 UV-sensitive beads (value: $55)
*Some states had additional prizes.
2008 National Prizes:
- A trip for four to Disney World for the student (value: $2,500)
- A WeatherBug Tracking Station with lifetime
access to WeatherBug Achieve (value: $6,490)
