Non-liable Private Sector Companies and Site Reuse
- Due to the first-ever agreement between EPA and a non-liable party for the cleanup of a Superfund site, construction of the remedy is complete at the Many Diversified Interests, Inc. (PDF) (12 pp, 3.1MB, About PDF) site in Houston, Texas. The agreement addressed liability concerns and facilitated the acquisition, cleanup and development of the property by a private party. This collaborative approach resulted in site reuses that will provide jobs, build the City’s tax base, and help sustain the ongoing revitalization of Houston’s Fifth Ward.
- Port Salerno Industrial Park, LLC (PSIP) realized the prime location and real estate development opportunity of the Solitron Microwave site in Port Salerno, Florida. EPA prepared a comfort letter and provided information to address liability and stigma concerns through the Prospective Purchaser Inquiry Service. PSIP’s redevelopment efforts to transform the long-vacant, stigmatized site into an industrial park assisted EPA in implementing an effective cleanup remedy.
