NPL Site Narrative for Barceloneta Landfill

BARCELONETA LANDFILL
Florida Afuera, Puerto Rico

Federal Register Notice:  September 8, 1983

Conditions at listing (December 1982): Barceloneta Landfill accepts industrial wastes on a 20-acre site in Florida Afuera, Puerto Rico. The wastes are placed in sinkholes, some of which are 100 feet deep. There is no natural or artificial barrier to prevent migration of contamination. Ground water is used for municipal drinking water.

Status (July 1983): Later in 1983, EPA plans to start a Remedial Action Master Plan outlining the investigations needed to determine the full extent of cleanup required at the site. It will guide further actions at the site.
