NPL Site Narrative for American Cyanamid Co.

Conditions at listing (December 1982): American Cyanamid Co. manufactures a wide range of organic compounds on a 575-acre site in Bound Brook, New Jersey. On the site are a number of individual disposal areas, including both active and inactive lagoons and inactive landfills. Ground water beneath the site is contaminated with a wide range of organic compounds. The plant is located on the Raritan River adjacent to surface water intakes for public water supplies.

Status (July 1983): American Cyanamid is pumping a sufficient amount of ground water to prevent migration off-site and is also conducting additional studies of the source of contamination. All activities are part of an Administrative Consent Order the company signed with the State.
