NPL Site Narrative for Denzer & Schafer X-Ray Co.

Conditions at listing (December 1982): Denzer & Schafer X-Ray Co. reclaims silver on a 5-acre site in Bayville, Ocean County, New Jersey. Since 1979, the facility has discharged caustic waste water to an on-site septic system. The underlying Cohansey Aquifer is contaminated with toxic and volatile organics. The aquifer supplies drinking water to residential and public water supply wells serving 25,500 area residents. No contamination of surface water or air has been documented to date.

Status (July 1983): EPA plans to prepare a Remedial Action Master Plan outlining the investigations needed to determine the full extent of cleanup required at the site. It will guide further actions at the site.
