NPL Site Narrative for Fulbright Landfill

FULBRIGHT LANDFILL
Springfield, Missouri

Federal Register Notice:  September 8, 1983

Conditions at listing (October 1981): The Fulbright Landfill is on the floodplain of the Little Sac River near Springfield, Missouri. From 1963 until 1969, the city-owned facility accepted municipal wastes, as well as industrial wastes containing cyanides, acids, plating and paint sludges, solvents, and pesticides. In 1967, a hauler died when he inadvertently dumped a drum containing acid into a pit containing cyanide.

Status (July 1983): EPA worked with the State and the City of Springfield to develop a program to monitor ground water and surface water. Initial results identified several organic compounds and metals in ground water and surface water collected at the site. The State and EPA are evaluating the monitoring data collected to date.
