GOULD, INC.

Federal Register Notice: September 8, 1983Conditions at listing (December 1982): The Gould, Inc., site covers about 10 acres in Portland, Oregon. The site was a battery recycling and disposal facility which Gould acquired in 1979. It also handled large quantities of lead wastes. The battery facility is no longer active, but a pile of more than 10,000 tons of battery casings remains on the site. Air, surface water, and ground water are contaminated with lead.
Status (July 1983): The State has cited Gould for water quality violations. The company and the State are negotiating to develop a plan for cleaning up the site.
