Works Program
The National Endowment for the Arts will make a limited number of grants for design competitions to stimulate excellence in design in the public realm. This initiative is intended to bring institutions from across the country together with the best design talent, to raise the expectations and aspirations for public work, and to increase popular awareness of the importance of design in daily life.

- Department Of Housing and Urban Development Invites Applications
for Seven Urban Empowerment Zones and Forty Renewal Communities
The Community Renewal Tax Relief Act of 2000 (CRTR Act) authorizes the designation of nine Round III Empowerment Zones (EZs). Seven of the Round III EZs are to be designated in urban areas by the Secretary of HUD. The remaining two Round III EZs are to be designated in rural areas by the Secretary of Agriculture. This Notice invites applications for designation of nominated areas as Empowerment Zones.

- ATSDR announces availablity of Funds for "Enhancement of State,
County or Local Public Health Departments Participation in Brownfields
Decisions and Action."
The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) announces the availability of fiscal year (FY) 2001 funds for a Cooperative Agreement program for a pilot activity with a select number of local health departments to demonstrate effective public health actions around Brownfields properties. This program addresses the "Healthy People 2010" focus area(s) of Environmental Health.

EPA is accepting proposals for financial assistance for USTfields Pilots. Fund Pilots
EPA is accepting proposals for Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund Pilots until November 15, 2001. The pilots, which are funded up to $1,000,000, test cleanup and redevelopment planning models, direct special efforts toward removing regulatory barriers without sacrificing protectiveness and facilitate coordinated environmental cleanup and redevelopment efforts at the federal, state and local levels.-
