New Assistant Administrator for the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response
January 3 - Susan P. Bodine began work as Assistant Administrator for EPA's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER). The U.S. Senate confirmed Ms. Bodine in the position of Assistant Administrator on December 17, 2005.
Prior to joining EPA, Ms. Bodine served as Staff Director and Senior Counsel of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where she worked primarily on Clean Water Act, Wetlands, Superfund, Brownfields, and Army Corps of Engineers civil works legislation and oversight. Ms. Bodine joined the Subcommittee staff in January 1995 after spending over six years in private practice as an environmental attorney with the Washington, D.C. law firm, Covington & Burling. Ms. Bodine received her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her undergraduate degree from Princeton University.
As Assistant Administrator for OSWER, Ms. Bodine will be responsible for EPA's programs on hazardous and solid waste management, hazardous waste cleanup including RCRA corrective action, Superfund and federal facilities cleanup and redevelopment, brownfields, oil spill prevention and response, chemical accident prevention and preparedness, underground storage tanks, and emergency response.
