Improving Compliance
EPA, states, tribes, and the regulated community have made tremendous strides in reducing the number of new releases. Unfortunately, thousands of new petroleum leaks from underground storage tanks are discovered each year, often due to improper operation and maintenance. Improving operational compliance is, therefore, one of our greatest challenges and one of our most important priorities. Throughout the year, EPA will work with states, tribes, and other partners to explore innovative approaches for improving operational compliance, conducting more frequent inspections, developing better training for EPA and state inspectors, and providing new easy-to-use compliance assistance tools to owners and operators.
Check back to this web page throughout the year to obtain the latest information on OUST's efforts on these issues.
