UST/LUST Program Status In North Carolina

North Carolina was granted state program approval (SPA) in 1999. Six of the eight states in Region 4 have approved programs.

Number of confirmed releases 24,093 (national total: 474,127)
Number of cleanups completed 18,027 (national total: 365,361)
Number of cleanups in backlog to be completed 6,066 (national total: 108,766)

Percent of facilities in significant operational compliance with:
Release prevention requirements 73%
Release detection requirements 74%
Both prevention and release detection requirements 62%
