Link to CCC Data (Exit Disclaimer)
| In preparation for the release of the 2001 TRI data,
EPA has worked with the Chlorine Chemistry Council (CCC) to provide
access to additional information on releases and other waste management
of dioxin and dioxin-like compounds. CCC is a national trade association
representing the manufacturers and users of chlorine and chlorine-related
products. EPA agreed to provide a web link to toxic equivalency (TEQ)
data voluntarily submitted to CCC by its members in an effort to provide
additional information on dioxin and dioxin-like compounds. TEQs are
a weighted quantity measure based on each dioxin congener's toxicity
relative to the most toxic dioxin congeners, 2,3,7,8-TCDD and 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDD.
Because the most toxic dioxin congeners are given a weight of one,
any mixture of congeners containing other than 2,3,7,8-TCDD and 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDD
will have a TEQ value that is less than the actual mass. It should
be noted that these factors do not relate the toxicity of these chemicals
to other chemicals (e.g., benzene).
Please note that you will be exiting the EPA website upon clicking
on the CCC link. Although EPA has assisted CCC in reviewing this
data, EPA does not certify that the data (both
quantity gram and TEQ) presented on the CCC website are consistent
with data submitted to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) program
or any other data source. In addition, CCC presentation of the data
may not necessarily be consistent with how data are presented by
EPA (e.g., TRI Explorer, 2001 TRI Public Data Release report). |
