     These maps illustrate the amount of toxic air pollutant emissions by county in 1996. Map colors indicate ranges of emission density values, and each county is colored according to its value relative to the rest of the U.S.

The emissions value displayed in the maps is emissions density -- the county total emissions of the selected pollutant divided by the geographic size of the county (tons per year per square mile).
