National Center
for Environmental Research NCER's mission is to support high-quality research by the nation's leading scientists that will improve the scientific basis for decisions on national environmental issues and help EPA achieve its goals. NCER, as a part of EPA's Office of Research and Development, supports leading edge extramural research in exposure, effects, risk assessment, and risk management. NRC Research Priorities for Particulate
Matter In January 1998, in response to requests from Congress and the U.S. EPA, the National Research Council (NRC) established a Committee on Research Priorities for Airborne Particulate Matter. The purpose of this committee is to identify the most important research priorities for the next review of the PM standard, to develop a conceptual plan for PM research, and to monitor progress over the next five years in understanding the relation between PM exposure and public health.
