2008 EPA Datasets for Aircraft, Locomotive and Commercial Marine Vessels Sources

Airports - The aircraft sector includes all aircraft types used for public, private, and military purposes. This includes four types of aircraft 1) Commercial; 2) Air Taxis; 3) General Aviation; and 4) Military. Ground support equipment (GSE) and auxiliary power units (APU) are also included. In addition, the 2008 NEI includes in-flight emissions for lead.

*Note that the detailed airport aircraft, GSE, and APU emissions are now formatted as 'point' sources such that all aircraft, airport ground support, and aircraft auxiliary power units are gegraphically located at specific airports' latitude and longitude coordinates. In-flight emissions are formatted as 'non-point' and the detailed emissions are on a per-state basis.

Commercial Marine - The Commercial Marine Vehicle (CMV) sector includes all boats and ships used either directly or indirectly in the conduct of commerce or military activity. The majority of these vessels are powered by diesel engines that are either fuled with distillate or residual fuel oil blends. For the purpose of this inventory it is assumed that Category 3 vessels primarily use residual blends while Category 1 and 2 vessels typically used distillate fuels.

Note that commercial marine vessels are now formatted as "nonpoint" sources. At the greatest level of detail, EPA's estimates are geographically located within port and underway shape files, with each shape associated with a county or offshore FIP code.

Locomotives - The locomotive sector includes railroad locomotives powered by diesel-electric engines. Locomotives are divided into Class I line haul, Class II/III line haul, and Class I yard.

Note that line haul (Class I) and ClassII/III rail emissions are now formatted as "nonpoint" sources. At the most detailed level, EPA's estimates are geographically located within track segment shape files, with each shape associated with a county or offshore FIP code. Rail yards are now formatted as point sources with each yard geographically located at specific rail yards' latitude and longitude coordinates.

2008 EPA Datasets for Onroad and Nonroad Sources - EPA developed onroad and nonroad estimates for the 2008NEI via MOBILE6 and NONROAD models run within the National Mobile Inventory Model (NMIM). State and local agencies (note NMIM only calculates county-level emissions, and thus does not include tribes) were strongly encouraged to submit NMIM County Database (NCD) inputs for inclusion in these NMIM runs. All NCD inputs submitted by 11/1/2010 were included in NCD12012010 and were used in EPA's 2008NEIv1 estimates.

Auxiliary Files for Onroad and Nonroad - National Mobile Inventory Model (NMIM) National County Database (NCD) inputs submitted by 11/1/2010 were included in NCD12012010 and were used in EPA 2008NEIv1 estimates. (Note that the NCD file was replaced, but not renamed on 4/20/2011. The only change is a revision to VMT in Davidson County, TN by 3.7%)
