Rapid Inventory Development Pilot (RID)

November 3, 2004

The Emission Inventory and Analysis Group is beginning a pilot project with select states to investigate how we may significantly decrease the time period in which states collect emissions data from industrial sources, organize that data in their databases, perform quality checks, and then transfer the data to EPA for inclusion in the National Emissions Inventory (NEI).

Currently, States are allowed approximately 17 months to provide EPA this information and it takes an additional 19 months for EPA to perform QA/QC, reconcile, review and incorporate this data, and data from other sources, into a complete emission inventory. The goal of the Rapid Inventory Development Pilot is to develop a complete 2004 emission inventory for the participating agencies within 12 months.

If you would like to make comments regarding the RID Pilot, or if you have any questions or suggestions, please send an email to Doug Solomon (solomon.douglas@epa.gov), with EPA's Emission Inventory and Analysis Group. In the subject field, please put 'RID Pilot.'
