| Abstract: The EPA is proposing a rule known as the "Interstate Air Quality Rule". This action would dramatically reduce and permanently cap SO2 and NOx emissions in the eastern part of the US - where these pollutants cause the biggest problem. SO2 and NOx contribute to the formation of fine particles and ground-level ozone, pollutants that, together, are associated with thousands of premature deaths and illnesses each year. These pollutants also contribute to acid rain and regional haze. Reducing emissions of these pollutants will significantly address these health issues, in addition to improving visibility and protecting sensitive ecosystems. This file is a fact sheet summarizing |
