Abstract:
On Nov. 4, 2002, EPA revised its source category list for small industrial facilities, known as area sources, that emit seven specific toxic air pollutants. In July 1999, EPA committed to regulate toxic air pollutants from area sources known as Gasoline Distribution (Stage 1) facilities. This reductions achieved through this regulation allow the Agency to remove five relatively smaller categories of sources from its list for regulation: asphalt hot-mix production; fabricated metal products; paint and allied products; paper coated and laminated packaging; transportation equipment manufacturing. EPA also is removing the area source category "Open Burning of Scrap Tires" from the list of stationary source categories considered for regulation. Scrap tire burning is illegal in all 50 states; EPA does not consider it a category appropriate for regulation under the Clean Air Act (section 112).
