Abstract:

Document: FACT SHEET for Proposal of MACT Rule for Oil and Natural Gas Production and Natural Gas Transmission and Storage

Dates: The EPA Administrator signed these proposed rules on November 24, 1997. Resolution of issues delayed distribution of the proposal until January 29, 1998. The preamble and rule should be published in the Federal Register before the end of the second week of February 1998.

These proposed national emission standards for hazardous air pollutants (NESHAP) would limit emissions of hazardous air pollutants (HAP) from oil and natural gas production and natural gas transmission and storage facilities. These proposed rules would implement section 112 of the Clean Air Act (Act) and are based on the Administrator's determination that oil and natural gas production and natural gas transmission and storage facilities emit HAP identified on the EPA's list of 188 HAP.

Also, the EPA is amending the list of source categories established under section 112(c) of the Act. The EPA is listing natural gas transmission and storage as a category of major sources and oil and natural gas production as a category of area sources in addition to its major source listing.
