******************************* QA/QC Corner ****************************** The Quality Assurance Handbook consists of five volumes: Volume I (Principles), Volume II (Ambient Air Methods), Volume III (Stationary Source Methods), Volume IV (QA for Meteorological Measurements), Volume V (Va - QA Manual for Precipitation Measurement Systems; Vb - Operations and Maintenance Manual for Precipitation Measurement Systems). EPA issued an interim revised edition of The Quality Assurance Handbook in 1994, and a fully revised edition is planned for 1995. The Interim Edition will be supplied in shrink-wrapped plastic, while the revised edition will be issued in three-hole binders. ---------------- Overview of Interim Edition ------------------ Each volume will be issued as a complete unit, with out-of-date sections either deleted or updated by an addendum sheet. (Deleted sections will be available by request.) Each Volume has been assigned a new EPA document number. Volume Specific Changes: Volume I Completely revised in 1993. 45 pages Volume II Manual SO2, manual NO2, SO2 by flame photometry, O3 by chemiluminescence, and protocol 2 gas sections deleted. 700 pages Volume III Three additional sections added for a total of 19 methods; 12 of the methods prepared before 1983 and 15 before 1987. Protocol 1 gas section deleted. 2300 pages. Volume IV No change, 1989 edition reprinted. 279 pages. Volume V Volumes Va and Vb combined. 200 pages of appendices in Volume Vb deleted (but available on request). 320 pages. --------------- Overview of Revised Edition -------------------- The current page numbering system has been replaced with a standard one. Volume I is changed little. Volume IV is expanded to cover equipment measuring meteorological parameters from 10 to 1000 meters. Other volumes are changed significantly: Volume I Volume I: A Field Guide to Environmental Quality Assurance (EPA /600/R-94/038a, currently available) Volume II Section on QA for organic compound measurement systems and the automated PM-10 sampler added. Duplication across sections reduced substantially. 600 pages. (EPA/600/R-94/038b, available in mid 1996) Volume III The test method as printed in the CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) reproduced in the QA Handbook. Approximately 35 methods added. Activities and equipment common to more than one method placed in generic sections. Information in the CFR not repeated in the text. Features unique to the test method and areas where more guidance is needed than is provided in the CFR described. Data sheets to help the user determine if the proper equations, units, constants, and sampling parameters are being used are also provided in the text. 600 pages. (EPA /600/R-94/038c, available mid 1995) Volume IV Meteorological Measurements, (EPA /600/R-94/038c, available mid 1995) Volume V Title changed. Expanded to cover dry deposition. SOPs for analytical methods/equipment calibration removed. 400 pages.
