Abstract: As required under the Clean Air Act, the periodic review of the national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for particulate matter (PM) is now underway. EPA is now releasing a preliminary draft PM Staff Paper for public and peer review. Chapter 5 of the preliminary draft Staff Paper includes assessments of scientific and technical information and proposed future analyses or assessments of visibility data or information. Included in this discussion is a proposed focus group project to assess public opinions on air pollution-related visibility. This summary report presents the findings of a pilot focus group that was conducted in Washington DC. .
