| Abstract: In a proposed settlement with nine environmental groups (filed Nov. 13, 2002), EPA has agreed to designate areas for the 8-hour ozone standard by April 15, 2004. This deadline gives states and tribes ample time to update their recommendations for nonattainment area boundaries. Because the deadline is within several months of EPA's target date for designating areas for the fine particle standard, states and tribes will be able to develop their strategies for reducing both pollutants at the same time. This file is the text of the proposed consent decree. EPA will take public comment on the proposal for 30 days following publication of a notice in the Federal Register. |
