Abstract: On Dec. 18, 2002, EPA issued its final response to a U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit remand of the 1997 8-hour ozone standard. The remand required the Agency to consider whether ground-level ozone pollution provides any potential beneficial health effects by shielding the public from "harmful effects of the sun's ultraviolet rays." This file is a fact sheet on the final response, which reaffirms the 1997 standard.
