Clean-up of Scrap Tire Piles

Roughly 4 million tires were cleaned-up along the border from 2003-2008. Two of the largest piles (INNOR and Centinela) have been eliminated and numerous smaller site clean-ups have occurred. For a description of border tire pile clean-ups view the Border 2012 Scrap Tire Action Plans (PDF) (40pp, 1.2M). (PDF en Espaņol) (40pp, 1.2M)

Under the Reduce Land Contamination goal of Border 2012, Objective 3 addresses the clean-up of scrap tire piles. Specifically, the objective aims to clean-up three of the larger scrap tire sites in the U.S.-Mexico border region by 2010.
