The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and bi-national Partners are coordinating a midpoint assessment of the U.S.-Mexico Border Environmental Program: Border 2012 Program. EPA welcomes recommendations and comments to enhance the Border 2012 Program, building on past successes and considering emerging issues, as EPA assesses the following areas:
- Border 2012 Goals/Objectives
- Objectives and sub-objectives that could be strengthened or improved.
- New or emerging issues / problems to be adopted as new Border 2012 Objectives.
- Evaluation of Progress
- Effectiveness of how we evaluate and measure our progress and accomplishments
- Organizational Structure
- Effectiveness and efficiency of the current program organizational structure (regional workgroups, border-wide workgroups, policy fora, task forces).
- Organizational units (i.e., RWG, BWWG, PF,TF) to be modified, if any
- Communications
- Ways to communicate with communities and stakeholders more effectively.
- Leveraging Resources
- How to leverage resources to advance the goals/objectives of Border 2012.
Border 2012 is a 10-year, binational, results-oriented, environmental program for the U.S.-Mexico border region, which has been developed by the EPA, Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Mexico's Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources), the U.S. border Tribes, and the environmental agencies from each of the ten U.S.-Mexico Border States. The mission of Border 2012 is to protect public health and the environment in the U.S.-Mexico border region, consistent with the principles of Sustainable development. EPA is requesting recommendations and comments that will enhance the Border 2012 Program from interested parties and border stakeholders. Comment period open from August 1st until September 14th, 2007. Written comments can be submitted by email to border2012.comments@epa.gov
