Erosion Basics: Online Educational Presentations. Exit EPA Disclaimer
Dr. Richard McLaughlin, Associate Professor in the Soil Science Department at North Carolina State University, provides a series of erosion education slide presentations available for download on his Web site. The presentations describe erosion processes and provide pictures and diagrams of erosion problems and solutions. Presentations include:
  • Erosion Basics 1: Introduction
  • Erosion Basics 2: Erosion and Soils
  • Erosion Basics 3: Rills and Gullies
  • Erosion Basics 4: Practices Overview

Erosion and Sedimentation Newsletters. Exit EPA Disclaimer
The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources' Division of Land Resources writes a quarterly newsletter that explores sediment issues and ongoing projects throughout the state.

European Sediment Research Network (SedNet) Web Site. Exit EPA Disclaimer
SedNet provides an on-line European platform where sediment professionals can meet to exchange tools, knowledge, technologies and expertise. The Web site advertises sediment-related conferences and workshops, disseminates sediment documents, hosts a bulletin board for sediment questions and answers, and offers reports about SedNet activities.

Federal Interagency Sedimentation Project (FISP). Exit EPA Disclaimer
FISP was created in 1939 to unify the research and development activities of Federal agencies involved in fluvial-sediment studies. The Web site offers reports and instruction manuals describing fluvial sampling techniques and equipment.

NASA's Visible Earth Web Site. Exit EPA Disclaimer
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration maintains this Web site to provide the public with a consistently updated, central point of access to the superset of NASA's Earth science-related images, animations, and data visualizations. The site includes links to images of soils, sedimentation, erosion, and turbidity as seen from space.

Online Sediment Conferences and Workshops Calendars. Exit EPA Disclaimer
Several organizations maintain calendars listing upcoming sediment-related conferences and workshops, including:

Research Reports on Water and other Environmental Topics. Exit EPA Disclaimer
The Environmental Law Institute (ELI) undertakes policy studies to improve environmental law. ELI offers a series of on-line research reports outlining their analyses and conclusions in the areas of conservation, environmental technology, Federal and State relations, land use, mining, pollution prevention, water, wetlands, and much more.

Sediment and Erosion Control Research and Education Facility (SECREF) at North Carolina State University (NCSU). Exit EPA Disclaimer
NCSU established SECREF as part of its National Training Center for Land-Based Technology and Watersheds. SECREF is the first site in North Carolina and one of the few in the nation to be dedicated to the evaluation and improvement of sediment and erosion control systems.

Sediment -- Breaking News Web Site. Exit EPA Disclaimer
The International Erosion Control Association maintains a Web site listing sediment-related news articles.

Sediment-Related Journals. Exit EPA Disclaimer

Sediment-Related White Papers. Exit EPA Disclaimer
The International Erosion Control Association provides a series of sediment-related white papers on its site. Papers range from descriptions of small local projects to discussions and research on broad sediment topics.

Soil Physics Slide Presentation. Exit EPA Disclaimer
This slide presentation was developed by the STream Restoration, Ecology, & Aquatic Management Solutions (STREAMS) Project, based at Ohio State University. STREAMS is a multi-agency initiative whose goal is to provide education, information, technology and communication on stream management strategies. This on-line teaching tool discusses the basics of soil physics.

State and Federal Erosion and Sediment Control Web Sites. Exit EPA Disclaimer
Compiled by the International Erosion Control Association, this Web site provides links to other sites that provide information on federal, state, and province erosion and sediment control regulations.

USGS Programs and Investigations Related to Soil and Water Conservations (PDF). Exit EPA Disclaimer
(Osterkamp and Gray, International Journal of Sediment Research, Vol. 16, No. 3, 2001, pp. 421- 429). This paper discusses the efforts by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to collect water and sediment data across the Nation, and how the USGS and others incorporate the data into studies of soil and water conservation.

Water Legislation: Laws, Regulations, Statutes, and Treaties.
This site provides information about the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and Wetlands Laws, Regulations, Executive Orders, Guidance, and Scientific Documents. See:.

WATERSHEDSS: On-line Sediment and Turbidity Information. Exit EPA Disclaimer
The North Carolina State University Water Quality Group developed WATERSHEDSS - A Decision Support System for Nonpoint Source Pollution Control - to assist watershed managers. The on-line program provides an extensive water quality educational component, including sections on sediment and turbidity. These sections provide detailed information on sediment classification, origins, impacts on designated water uses, and analytical techniques.
