America Recycles Day is an excellent opportunity to help protect our environment and conserve our resources. In 2010, the United States produced 250 million tons of municipal solid waste, and recycled and composted nealy 85 million tons of this material, which is a 34 percent recycling rate. There are many benefits of recycling, including:
- Conserving energy and natural resources;
- Reducing air and water pollution; and
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

By committing ourselves to producing less waste, reusing and recycling more materials, buying more recycled and recyclable products, and reducing toxic chemicals in products, we conserve energy and preserve natural resources.
