1997 National RCRA Hazardous Waste Biennial Report Data FilesThe United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in cooperation with the States, biennially collects information regarding the generation, management, and final disposition of hazardous wastes regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA), as amended.
Collection, validation and verification of the Biennial Report (BR) data is the responsibility of RCRA authorized states. EPA does not modify the data reported by the states. Any questions regarding the information reported for a RCRA handler should be directed to the state agency responsible for the BR data collection.
The Biennial Reporting System (BRS) supports the national hazardous waste program commonly referred to as RCRA.
BRS is a national system that collects data on the generation, management and minimization or hazardous waste. BRS captures detailed data on the generation of hazardous waste from large quantity generators and data on waste management practices from treatment, storage and disposal facilities. These data are collected every other year and provide the ability to perform trend analysis.
The data are presented here in seventeen (17) compressed files (.ZIP).
The file USOCY97.ZIP contains the following: One ASCII README.TXT file; Three Adobe Acrobat files containing the Flat File Index (FFINDEX.PDF), the User Instruction Manual (BRS97FF.PDF), and the 1997 Hazardous Waste Report Instructions and Forms (BRS97IF.BRS); Two data files, (USOCLY97.BRS, CL - Control File, USOFSY97.BRS, FS - File Statistics), that contain information used to verify the integrity of the seventeen (17) data files (the 16 reported data files and the file HT - Handler Total) ; and, One file that contains the National Biennial Hazardous Waste Report quantity totals for each handler in the data files (USOHTY97.BRS, HT - Handler Total).
The sixteen (16) remaining files contain the reported data.
The data are organized in non-delimited flat files presenting a relational representation of the data that is in third normal form with a few minor exceptions. Each flat file consists of fixed length records. The fields within each record are defined by their starting and ending column positions. More information on the structure and information contained in the flat files can be obtained by reading the README.TXT file.
