2006 marks the twelfth year of the WasteWise program. Since its inception in 1994, WasteWise has grown to more than 1,900 corporations, government agencies, universities, hospitals, and other organizations committed to cutting costs and conserving natural resources through solid waste reduction.

Partner Achievements

WasteWise partners have reported more than 120 million tons of waste reduced since 1994. As a result of these activities, WasteWise partners have made significant achievements reducing their impact on global climate change by GHG emissions by greater than 7.3 million metric tons of carbon equivalent.1

1 This figure represents the amount of carbon equivalent reduced as estimated by EPA’s Waste Reduction Model (WARM) based on annualized data reported by WasteWise partners in 2005. By publishing this statistic, WasteWise does not claim credit for this reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. EPA is currently working on a methodology to better document the results of WasteWise program and greenhouse gas reductions attributable to WasteWise efforts.
