  1. May is American Wetlands Month
  2. EPA Holds Listening Sessions on the Watershed Initiative

1) May is American Wetlands Month

As part of the Year of Clean Water, EPA is celebrating American Wetlands Month throughout May. This year's campaign will focus on protecting some of the nation's most unique wetlands. EPA, the Izaak Walton League, and other federal and local agencies and non-profit groups have scheduled activities around the country throughout the month. Activities kick off with an EPA and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agency 5KRun and 2K Walk on May 4 in Arlington Virginia, to help fund the restoration of a local wetland. Additional activities are planned on the Mall in Washington, D.C., including a National Park Service fair on May 3-4 and on May 18, a family fair at the U.S. Botanic Gardens. On May 16, the Environmental Law Institute, EPA, and other federal agencies will honor the winners of the annual National Wetland Awards. State governors, tribes, and other interested parties are invited to these listening sessions to help EPA design this initiative. All sessions will be held in Washington, DC at EPA East, 1201 Constitution Ave., NW, Room 1117A. Dates are: May 14 (8:30 - 11:30), May 15 (8:30 - 11:30), May 22 (1:00 - 4:00), and May 29 (8:30 - 11:30).
