Capital River Relief Effort BeginsAssistant Administrator Benjamin Grumbles participated in the Capital River Relief “Team Up to Clean Up” Earth Day kick-off event on Thursday, March 31, 2005, in Washington, DC. This event begins a month long clean-up along the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers. The kick-off will include environmental groups, businesses, and governmental organizations. Office of Water Launches New Webpage for KidsThe Office of Water has launched a new Kids Page featuring a new character called "Thirstin." This site contains games, activities and narrated/animated classroom experiments. Some of the new activities include an animated water cycle; word scramble; word search; water trivia and "Thirstin's Wacky Water Adventure." Teachers and students can work on-line or download some of the information for classroom use. The new pages are located at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/kids/index.html. Conserving Water at EPAEPA has established an internal goal to reduce its total water consumption by 10 percent by 2010 from its consumption levels in 2000. To help achieve this goal, EPA is assessing water use at several of its facilities and developing Water Management Plans to increase their water efficiency. The Agency has developed water management plans for 11 EPA laboratories and research centers across the country. A focal point of water management plans is Best Management Practices (BMPs) designed to consider all of the various uses of water and maximize conservation.
